Football belongs to the whole world today, but its rules, its first clubs, its first cup competition and its first international match were all born in the United Kingdom. United Kingdom Football exists to tell that story — clearly, accurately and in a way that anyone can enjoy, whether you have followed the game for fifty years or have just discovered it.
What we do
We publish in-depth stories about the history of football in England, Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland: the founding of The Football Association in 1863, the early clubs and competitions, the great teams and players, the tragedies that changed the game and the triumphs that defined it. We also run a free weekly newsletter and share short history stories on Instagram and TikTok.
Our principles
- Accuracy first. Every story is researched carefully and checked against reliable historical sources. When accounts of an event differ, we say so.
- Respect. Football history includes disasters and loss. We write about those events with care for the people affected and their families.
- Original writing. All articles on this site are written by our editorial team. We do not copy content from other websites.
- Independence. We are a fan project and are not affiliated with The FA, the Premier League, UEFA, FIFA or any club.
